Child of Ex- South African President Zuma Denies Terror Accusations as Legal Proceedings Begins
The offspring of ex- South African President Jacob Zuma has pleaded not guilty to terror charges at the commencement of her trial in the coastal city of Durban city.
Zuma-Sambudla, 43, is being charged over remarks she posted on digital networks in the past during deadly protests in South Africa that occurred subsequent to the detention of her father.
A period of chaos in multiple regions of the country in the summer of 2021, including looting and intentional burning, caused at least 300 killed and resulted in damage worth an estimated 2.8 billion dollars (£2.2bn).
Zuma-Sambudla has been accused of encouraging this turmoil and faces allegations of incitement to commit terrorism and public violence.
Background of the Case
The unrest were concentrated in the areas of the Gauteng province and KwaZulu-Natal and were triggered by the previous president's detention for defying a judicial ruling to testify at an investigation into allegations of impropriety while he was holding office.
The defendant has always rejected the allegations against her, with her attorney in the past labelling the prosecution's legal argument as insufficient.
She has also repeatedly claimed the allegations against her were an bid to settle political grievances with her father after he founded his own political party and competed against the ANC.

This was supported by the Jacob Zuma foundation, which said the legal matter was an "abuse of power" and a "coordinated attempt" of "political and kinship persecution" against the previous head of state and his relatives.

The defense has argued that the proof presented by the state is unconvincing and does not have concrete proof for a conviction.
